There was blues galore on Sunday as Michael Packer and his band hosted another New York Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Concert – this time at Club Helsinki in Hudson – honoring many musicians who share their talent throughout New York State from Long Island to Upstate.
Among the bluesmen inducted at Club Helsinki were keyboardist Bruce Katz (Gregg Allman Band, Delbert McClinton Band, John Hammond); singer-guitarist Murali Coryell; singer-harmonicat Chris O’Leary (Levon Helm & the Barnburners); singer-guitarist Tas Cru; multi-instrumentalist and singer Chris Zaloom; guitarist Chris Vitarello; singer-songwriter-saxophonist-pianist Jay Collins (Allman Brothers Band, Levon Helm, Donald Fagen and the Dukes of September); guitarist-keyboardist Ross Rice (Steve Earle, Steve Forbert, Peter Frampton); Rick Surrano of Athens; singer-songwriter-guitarist Nick Bukuvalas; and brother-drummers Eric Parker and Tony Parker.
“I think the event was fabulous,” said Packer. “We had a lot of fun, and it is an honor to find such fantastic talent.”
Cameron Melville of Club Helsinki agreed. “It was a great crowd hearing a great bunch of blues musicians,” Melville said. “I give credit to Sonny Rock and Gary McKeever for organizing this. To me, it was an epic night. Lots of new faces.”
“Such an honor,” added Packer.
