It’s the Weekend!

Friday, November 29th, 2013

Who's a good girl?

Congrats! You made it through another work week. Hopefully, it was a short one, and you’re already deep into your extended Thanksgiving weekend. But for the rest of us, it’s finally time to go out and have some fun…

But before we head out for our big weekend around Nippertown, we’d like to send a great big thank-you to everyone who dropped by this week to add encouragement, support, proof-reading and, yes, criticism, too. And thanks for helping to spread the word about

Of course, we couldn’t possibly cover the wide, wonderful scope of offerings around town without a dedicated and devoted bunch of wonderful writers, photographers, artists, tipsters and other assorted enablers who continually enrich us all with their contributions. So a big salute goes out to this week’s community contributors:

Larry Murray
Andrzej Pilarczyk
Joel Patterson
Timothy Reidy
J Hunter
Rudy Lu
Pete Mason
Ted Were

Please consider adding your name to this list. Just send us something – a review, preview, interview, photo, list, rant, crayon drawing or whatever’s on your mind. Remember, Nippertown is your hometown, and we can’t possibly do this without your help.

Thanks to the fine folks who provided us with cool give-away merch – tix, CDs, downloads and other swag – for the faithful Nippertown readers:

The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy
The Ale House, Troy

And thanks to all of the folks from the area venues and organizations who were gracious enough to provide us with review tickets and/or photo passes for their events:

WAMC-FM’s The Linda, Albany
A Place for Jazz, Schenectady
WEXT-FM, North Greenbush
The Palace Theatre, Albany
The Upstate Concert Hall, Clifton Park
Step Up Presents, Albany

Thanks for keeping Nippertown alive… and lively,

NaNola’s Grand Opening on Saturday

Friday, November 29th, 2013

Let’s get this straight from the start: NaNola is a play on words, combining “nano” (which means small) and Nola (which is an abbreviation for New Orleans, Louisiana). Got it? With Shane Spillenger (formerly of Jillian’s) at the helm, the New Orleans-themed restaurant and bar NaNola first opened its doors about a month ago, but the restaurant/bar will celebrate its official grand opening on Saturday (November 30).

Doors opens at 4pm with a three-hour fundraiser for the Estherville Animal Shelter featuring complimentary hors d’oeuvres and drinks, as well as other food and drink specials. The festivities will be capped off by live music from the Sunny Side of the Street Band beginning at 7pm. And for those who have a little too much fun, Martin, Harding & Mazzoti will be sponsoring a safe-ride home program for the event.
