The Capital Area Live Music Awards Are Coming…

The folks from Tier One Talent are launching the Capital Area Live Music Awards, and you can help nominate your favorite Local 518 performers. The awards show is slated for Trick Shot Billiards & Sports Pub in Clifton Park at 8pm on Friday, November 22.

Described as “an evening of awards honoring music artists from all genres who perform in the greater Albany, NY region. Our area’s version of the Grammys, we like to call the Jammys.” The event will be hosted by Mike the Enforcer and feature live performances by artists in each category from country to alternative to jazz.

Fans are invited to submit up to four nominees in each category, and the deadline for all nominations is 10pm on Wednesday, November 6.

Winners in nearly two dozen categories will be chosen from the nominees by an “anonymous panel comprised of radio DJs, members of musical community that represent each genre listed, promoters, venue owners, live audio engineers and select non-partisan live music fans.” Honorary awards will be presented in four additional categories.

While I would normally be supportive of such a venture, I must note some personal; reservations here:

    1. The Jammys? Don’t they know that award name is owned by a much larger entity and represents a national awards ceremony? Granted, I am not sure the (original and real) Jammys have taken place in the past year or so (although I could be wrong), the question becomes: are they that out of touch on this prior-use fact?

    2. Trick Shot Billiards? Let me guess: one of the organizers either owns or manages this little bar?

    3. Fan nominations? Here we go again. It now has nothing to do with talent, but whatever band can rally their friends, family and facebook buddies to stuff the box.

    Reboot, please?

I absolutely agree with Jam Head.

Tier One Talent is owned by a guy named Dan Coler, who in my opinion is a bit of an egomaniac, a whack job and somebody who isn’t to be trusted. Don’t be surprised if Dan Coler nominates himself in every category.

    Watch out people.

On top of that… a local band doesn’t need to be awarded. A band is awarded by playing the gigs, and getting people to enjoy their music. They don’t need some silly trophy.

This award show is a joke and doesn’t deserve the huge publicity.
