Juston Stens & The Get Real Gang make their Nippertown debut on Friday night (September 20), headlining the Farm Aid Eve concert at Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs. If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because Stens is the former drummer for Philly alt-rockers Dr. Dog.
After leaving the Dr. Dog pound in 2010, Stens launched his solo career as a singer-songwriter-guitarist with his 2012 debut album, Trash or Treasure, and he’s wasting no time in following up with his sophomore effort, Share the Road, slated for release next month.
Stens took a rather unique approach to making his upcoming album. He decided to rebuild a 1972 Triumph motorcycle and hit the road for a cross-country journey, visiting friends in bands like Wilco, Spoon, Dr. Dog, Apollo Sunshine and Giant Cloud, and writing and recording songs with them along the way. Not only did he emerge with his new album, but the trip was also documented for the upcoming film, “I Lay Where I Fall.”
Now Stens is on the road again, touring the Northeast with his rock band, the Get Real Gang, and they’re headed into Putnam Den on Friday night (September 20) to kick off the big Farm Aid weekend in the Spa City. Show time is 10pm, and tickets are $7 ($12 if under 21).
