RIP: Brooks Brown

We were saddened over the weekend to learn of the passing of Brooks Brown, founder, owner and handy-man of the award-winning, Vermont-based modern rock station WEQX-FM. Brown was 66 years old.

Found at 102.7 on your FM dial, WEQX is one of the last truly independent commercial radio stations in the country, and the Texas-born Brown steadfastly kept it that way since building the station himself in an old Victorian house in Manchester nearly three decades ago.

Over the years, the on-air DJs came and went – from Ellen McKinnon to Jason Irwin, from Jim McGuinn to Willobee, but Brown remained at the helm, repeatedly refusing lucrative offers to sell the station to big media corporations… a true musical maverick.
