8/24/13: Today’s Tips: Saturday

MUSIC: “See the Future Saturday Night Sampler” @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Two excellent bands – the “steamboat soul” of Roosevelt Dime and the chamber-pop of Darlingside – team up for a double-bill worthy of Travers Day. 8pm. $17.

MUSIC: Philadelphia Orchestra @ SPAC, Saratoga Springs. Yes, it’s the closing night tradition for the orchestra at SPAC – the Tchaikovsky Spectacular featuring his powerful 1812 Overture. Also pianist Daniil Trifonov performs Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. And, of course, fireworks cap off the concert (and the season). 8pm.

THEATER: Cirque √Čloize @ Proctors, Schenectady. The Montreal performance troupe presents the North American premiere of “Cirkopolis,” combining the world of circus, dance and theater into one breathtaking show. 8pm. $20, $30, $40, $50 & $65. Through Sunday. Read review here…

The Faux Meek is a relatively new indie-rock group comprised of members of some of the region’s most popular bands, including Two Gun Man, Luxury Flats, and Mother Fletcher. Laura Roth, Nancy Timpanaro-Hogan and musical director-arranger Catherine Elizabeth Reid bring their witty playful humor, oversized personalities and fabulous three-part harmonies to the Spa City. 7:30pm. $35.
