8/23/13: Today’s Tips: Friday

MUSIC: Pedro Soler @ BSP Lounge, Kingston. The world renown flamenco guitarist is joined by his son-in-law Bryce Dessner, who just happens to be guitarist and songwriter with indie-rock heavyweights the National. With Parakeet (guitarist Matthew Cullen and cellist Jane Scarpantoni). 8pm. $15.

MUSIC: Caravan of Thieves @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Fuzz and Carrie Sangiovanni, (guitar, vocals, various percussive “instruments”), fiery violinist Ben Dean and double bass madman Brian Anderson serve up driving Gypsy jazz rhythms, mesmerizing vocal harmonies, fantastic stories and lots of fun. With Brooklyn singer-songwriter Clarence Bucaro. 8pm. $20.

MUSIC: Philadelphia Orchestra @ SPAC, Saratoga Springs. It’s a pops concert with the orchestra performing music from the 1940 Disney classic “Fantasia” to accompany the screening of the film. 8pm.

MUSIC: Holly & Evan @ Café’ NOLA, Schenectady. Ms. Taormina and Mr. Conway serve up blues and more… 6:30pm.

MUSIC: Erin Harkes & the Oran Mor Pipe Band @ Centre Street Pub, Schenectady. Let the Guinness flow… 8:30pm.

ART: Free Fun Friday @ Clark Art Institute, Williamstown. Free admission all day, as well as a host of free family activities, as part of the Highland Street Foundation’s seasonal Free Fun Fridays.

MUSIC: The Blind Owl Band @ the Hollow Bar + Kitchen, Albany. Bringing their “Adirondack freight train string music” sound down from Saranac Lake, the Blind Owl Band showcase their new sophomore album, This Train We Ride is Made of Wood and Steel. With the Lucky Jukebox Brigade. 10pm. $10.
