Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

It’s an evening of exquisite guitars ‘n’ more as David Bromberg and Larry Campbell team up at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock at 8pm on Friday, September 27. Tickets are $35, $45 & $55. Also at Bearsville, the Woodstock Guitar All-Stars featuring Joe Beesmer play a double-bill with Purple Knif at 8pm on Saturday, August 24 ($10); How the Hippies Saved Physics (featuring drummer Joe Bonadio, bassist Scott Petito, keyboardist Pete Levin and guitarist Marc Shulman with special guest vocalists Eugene Ruffolo, Lindsey Webster and more) take the stage at 9pm on Saturday, August 31 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door); and comedian Mario Cantone brings his band to town for an evening of comedy and music at 9:30pm on Saturday, September 21 ($50 & $75, to benefit the Polaris Project & Family of Woodstock).

At the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park, Chief Keef takes the stage on Tuesday, October 1 with 1017 Glo Gang opening at 8pm. Tickets are $20 in advance; $22 at the door. Also newly announced for the Upstate Concert Hall are GRIZ’s Rebel Era Tour at 8:30pm on Thursday, November 7 ($20); and Timeflies at 8pm on Wednesday, November 20 with Chiddy Bang and Cash Cash opening ($23 in advance; $25 at the door). Tickets for all three new shows go on sale on Friday (August 16).

“Weird” Al Yankovic will be squeezing out laughs and fab pop parodies at the Calvin Theatre in Northampton at 8pm on Sunday, October 6. Tickets are $28.50, $38.50 & $48.50. Also at the Calvin, Big Gigantic takes the stage at 8pm on Wednesday, October 23 with Opiou and Mosaiq. Tickets are $19. And Chris Cornell (of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog) makes a stop on his solo acoustic tour at 8pm on Sunday, November 17. American/Sri Lankan folk artist Bhi Bhiman opens the show. Tickets are $38, $48 & $58. Tickets for all three new concerts go on sale to the general public on Friday (August 16).

The Singing Anchors – featuring TV news anchors Jessica Layton, Jerry Gretzinger and Benita Zahn with musical director Jay Kerr – step into the spotlight for a concert at WAMC-FM’s The Linda in Albany at 2pm on Sunday, September 29. Tickets are $25.

Spirit Family Reunion – one of the breakthrough bands at the Newport Folk Festival earlier this month – brings their homegrown Americana sound to the BSP Lounge in Kingston on Friday, September 6. Last Good Tooth opens the show at 8pm. Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at the door.

Upcoming shows at the Half Moon in Hudson include She Keeps Bees with Last Good Tooth at 8pm on Friday, August 30; singer-songwriter Richard Buckner with Big Search at 8pm on Wednesday, September 4; the rockin’ double-bill of the Jay Vons and Lovesick on Friday, September 27 (doors at 9pm; $5); and the record release party for Zachary Cole with Last Good Tooth and Alexander Turnquist at 8pm on Saturday, October 5.

Jazz singer-songwriter-pianist (and Hudson Falls native) Tony DeSare returns to the Wood Theater in Glens Falls for his annual “Home for the Holidays” concerts at 2 & 8pm on Saturday, November 30. Tickets are $45.

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES: For the big, free, upcoming PearlPalooza fest in Albany, the Dirty Heads and Palma Violets are out; Portugal. The Man and Crystal Fighters are in.
