MUSIC: Blues Band Showdown @ The Linda, Albany. Holly & Evan, Jimy Graham and Joe Lowry & the Second Mile Blues Band serve up a big blast of the blues, as they compete in the battle of the blues bands sponsored by the Capital Region Blues Network. 7pm. $12.

MUSIC: Bend the Bars with Beats @ Freedom Square, Troy. The hip-hop concert for prisoner justice features Rebel Diaz, Baam Bada, S.K.A.T.E., and DJ Trumastr with DJ Cold Cut. Co-sponsored by the NYS Prisoner Justice Network. 5pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Bang On a Can Marathon @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. Six hours of non-stop music composed by Aphex Twin, David Lang, Michael Gordon, the Orchestra of Original Instruments and many others in a riveting celebration of new music featuring 50-plus musicians and composers from around the world. 4pm. $24; students $15.

THEATER: “The Disastrous Tale of Vera & Linus” @ Salem Art Works, Salem. Kipuka Theater’s 12-hour marathon production, written by Jesse Ball and Thordis Bjornsdottir. 10am. FREE.

MUSIC: Mary Fahl @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The former lead vocalist for the chamber-pop band October Project returns to the Caffe. Fahl will also be performing songs from her long-anticipated, soon-to-be-released album, Love and Gravity. With opener P.J. Pacifico. 8pm. $24.

CABARET: K.T. Sullivan @ SPAC’s Spa Little Theater, Saratoga Springs. The acclaimed cabaret singer offers her new show “Colored Lights,” dipping into the songbags of Noel Coward, Brecht & Weill, Stephen Sondheim and more. 2:15pm.

MUSIC: Hootenanny @ Capital Repertory Theatre’s Cafe, Albany. Following tonight’s performance of “The Sparkley Clean Funeral Singers” the band and cast will gather in the Cap Rep cafe for a hootenanny. Area musicians are invited to bring an instrument and sit in. 10:30pm. FREE.

FESTIVAL: McDonald’s African American Family Day @ Empire State Plaza, Albany. It’s the annual celebration of the traditions of the African American community through music, art and dance featuring a variety of family-oriented activities. Headliners include Stephanie Mills (5:30pm) and disco-funk band Heatwave (4:15pm). Numerous local choirs, dance groups, and local talent contest winners will also perform. 12noon. FREE.

THEATER: “Winning the Lottery” @ the Fort Salem Theater, Salem. The world premiere of a new musical by Al Budde and Jay Kerr about three women who work together in an office, continually play the same lottery numbers, and one lucky day win 44-million dollars. Starring Jesse Liebman, Gordon Hazzard, Jessica O’Keefe, Pat Reilly and Mary Skelly. 8pm. Through August 11.

MUSIC: The Spirit of Johnny Cash @ Historical Catskill Point, Catskill. Johnny Cash tribute band. 7pm.

MUSIC: Alpenglow @ the Spotty Dog, Hudson. The five-piece outfit has a sprawling indie-folk sound custom made for fans of bands such as Fleet Foxes or the Low Anthem. With Hand Habits. 8pm.
