7/28/13: Today’s Tips: Sunday

MUSIC: Saratoga Choral Festival @ SPAC’s Spa Little Theater, Saratoga Springs. Last month, the late composer-pianist Dave Brubeck was honored with a star on SPAC’s Walk of Fame. Now he’s being honored for his choral compositions with a memorial concert of his popular Pange Lingua variations for chorus and orchestra, and the unpublished Canticles of Mary. With special guest jazz pianist and Brubeck protegee Eldar Djangirov and his trio. 3pm. $30.

MUSIC: Maria Muldaur & the Campbell Brothers @ Central Park’s Music Haven, Schenectady. Only one thing beats the high-energy gospel soul of the sacred steel tradition, and that’s pairing the form’s reigning kings with the legendary blues diva, Maria Muldaur, of “Midnight at the Oasis” fame. Expect plenty of growling, wailing, shouting, singing and swinging from every corner of Central Park. 7pm. FREE

CABARET: “Strings Attached” @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Two-time Tony Award-winner Christine Ebersole joins jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein and his trio for an evening that showcases new arrangements of classic songs by Fats Waller, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer and more. 7pm.

MUSIC: O.A.R. @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. With Andrew McMahon and Allen Stone. 7:30pm.

FESTIVAL/MUSIC: Caramoor Jazz Festival @ the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, Katonah. Day Three of the three-day fest features Elio Villafranca & the Jass Syncopators, the Lionel Loueke Trio, the Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet, the James Carter Organ Trio and the Mingus Big Band. 2pm. $15, $25, $40 & $55. The composer and lyricist of “The Black Suits,” the TV show “Smash” and last year’s sold-out cabaret concerts returns with another evening of his sly, mischievous, toe-tapping songs.
