Led by Venezuelan keyboardist-producer Andres Ponce, the Miami-based band Elastic Bond is in the vanguard of a new generation of multi-cultural Latinos incorporating elements of music from the past to make exciting new music for the future. With sultry, seductive Honduran singer-songwriter Sofy Encanto at the microphone, Elastic Bond has concocted a retro-futuristic hybrid that fuses together folkloric rhythms and electronic beats to craft an intoxicating, cutting-edge, world-beat soul groove.
The band’s brand new album, Real, debuted at No. 1 on the Alternativo iTunes charts when it was released earlier this month. The album is chockful of well-crafted pop songs and catchy melodies, showcasing a unique style of urban tropical funk, sung in both English and Spanish. There are nods to both classic soul and traditional Latin music, while always staying true to the contemporary sounds of their musically diverse hometown.
Sponsored by WEXT-FM, Elastic Bond is slated to make their Nippertown concert debut on Wednesday night (July 17) at WAMC-FM’s The Linda in Albany. Local 518 singer-songwriter Olivia Quillio opens the show at 8pm. Tickets are $15.
