The Massry Center at St. Rose Announces New Concert

The College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center has announced the first concert of its fall season, and it’s an old (and very versatile) friend.

Mandolin master and MacArthur Fellowship honoree Chris Thile will grace the Massry Center stage at 7:30pm on Sunday, October 27, in support of his upcoming album, Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1, slated for release next month. Produced by Edgar Meyer, the album features Thile performing three Bach works written for solo violin: Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001; Partita No. 1 in B minor, BWV 1002; and Sonata No. 2 in A minor, BWV 1003.

With his acoustic progressive band the Punch Brothers, Thile has been a frequent Nippertown visitor, playing at The Egg several times, as well as opening for the Dave Matthews Band at the Times Union Center. But he has also played with a variety of other musicians around town. In April, he played a duet concert with jazz pianist Brad Mehldau at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington. On Saturday, July 20, he’ll play with guitarist-vocalist Michael Daves at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in Oak Hill. And on August 15, he’ll step into the spotlight at Tanglewood in Lenox, performing with Yo-Yo Ma and the Goat Rodeo Sessions.

Tickets for Thile’s concert at the Massry Center are priced at $30, and are currently on sale to the general public.
