    I had sixth row seats for what was supposed to be the Grateful Dead’s first appearance at SPAC in the summer of 1972. It was not to be – the town folk, or at least enough of those with power, convinced SPAC officials that the town would be overrun by wild hordes, daughters would be carried off never to be heard from again, and the carnage would be overwhelming.
