FILM: “Greenwich Village: Music That Defined a Generation” @ Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. Documentary about the birthplace of the singer-songwriter movement from 1961-1973, featuring poignant interviews, rare archival footage and new live performances by such filks as Pete Seeger, Carly Simon, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Judy Collins, Tom Paxton, Arlo Guthrie, Jose Feliciano and Peter Yarrow. 7pm. $9.50; $7.75 seniors; $6.75 children.
ART INSTALLATION: “Subliminal Transcriptions” @ the Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy. Yael Erel’s immersive light installation with sound uses simple means – a light source and a reflector – to amplify minuscule conditions that are normally overlooked. READING/DISCUSSION: Karen Shepard @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. The Williams College professor reads from her latest novel, “The Celestials,” set in 1870 and based on the lives of Chinese laborers who worked in North Adams’ Calvin Sampson Shoe Factory. $6. $5.
COMEDY: Jim Breuer @ the Colonial Theatre, Pittsfield. He a former SNL cast favorite (Goat Boy, Joe Pesci).
