Strange though it may seem, no one in the California Guitar Trio is actually from California – Bert Lams from Belgium, Hideyo Moriya from Japan and Paul Richards from Utah. But together, their technical fretboard wizardry is breathtaking, as is the wide range of instrumental music the group renders… everything from unique originals to dazzling, cleverly-arranged interpretations of jazz, classical music and, in a nod to their Cali moniker, even some surf-rock.
Since forming in 1991, CG3 has released nine studio albums, three live albums and a pair of best-of compilations. They’ve toured the world with King Crimson, and they’re featured in the documentary film, “Following the Music: On the Road with California Guitar Trio.”
Now in support of their latest, award-winning album, Andromeda (a new, all-original album nearly three years in the making), the California Guitar Trio is making a tour stop at the intimate Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs at 7pm on Wednesday (May 15). Tickets are $24 in advance; $26 at the door.
BUT WAIT… there’s more. We’re giving away a FREE TICKET for the show to two lucky Nippertown readers! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win. Deadline to enter is 12noon on Wednesday (May 15). The winner will be selected at random and notified on Wednesday afternoon.
