Down in Woodstock, the Bearsville Theater has added to its June concert calendar with such upcoming shows as Chris Stamey of the dBs at 9pm on Friday, June 7 ($18); Foster McGinty at 9pm on Friday, June 14 ($10) and – wait for it – Richard Thompson at 9pm on Friday, June 28 ($25, $35 & $55).
Club Helsinki in Hudson has been busy piling on a batch of new shows for the spring/summer season, including Jules Shear & Pal Shazar at 8pm on Monday (May 13); the blues-pumpin’ Chris O’Leary Band at 8pm on Thursday, May 16; the Rev Tor Band & Friends presenting “The Last Waltz Live” at 8pm on Friday, June 28 as a benefit for Music in Common ($25); recent Jazz Hero recipient Karl Berger and the Omi Improvisers Orchestra at 8pm on Sunday, July 21; and Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion at 9pm on Saturday, September 7.
The Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park is gearing up for a big summer season. Among this week’s new announcements are Joey Bada$$ with the Underachievers, AMJ, Dao Jones and DJ Playground at 8pm on Saturday, June 22 ($20 in advance; $22 at the door; on sale at 10am on Friday); Mac Miller’s Space Migration tour with Chance the Rapper, Vince Staples and Internet at 8pm on Saturday, July 20 ($30 in advance; $32 at the door; on sale at 10am on Friday, May 10); the All Stars Tour featuring Every Time I Die, Chelsea Grin, Veil of Maya, Terror, Capture the Crown, Iwrestledabearonce, For All Those Sleeping, Dayshell, Struc/tures, Ice Nine Kills, At Arms and Ghostship at 2pm on Sunday, July 21 ($22.50 in advance; $25 at the door; on sale at 1pm on Thursday); the Gaslight Anthem at 8pm on Wednesday, July 31 ($22.50 in advance; $25 at the door; on sale now); and the return of Matisyahu at 8pm on Monday, September 9 ($20 in advance; $23 at the door; on sale at 10am on Friday).
In case you missed him in concert earlier this week at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, the one and only Todd Rundgren will be dropping into the Calvin Theatre in Northampton at 8pm on Friday, August 16. In addition to guitarist Jesse Gress and drummer Prairie Prince who backed him up at Bearsville, Rundgren’s band at the Calvin will also include keyboardist-guitarist John Ferenzik and bassist Kasim Sultan. Tickets are $25, $35 & $45. Meanwhile, rising comedy star Tom Cotter – the first comedian to reach the finals of NBC-TV’s “America’s Got Talent” – makes his Calvin Theatre debut at 8pm on Saturday, October 5. He finished in the runner-up position on the TV show, losing to a dog show… Now that’s the stuff of comedy. Tickets are $20, $25 & $30. Tickets for both new shows will go on sale on Friday (May 10).
Up in Saratoga Springs, there are plenty of mighty intriguing shows lined up for the rest of this month at Caffe Lena, including the California Guitar Trio at 7pm on Wednesday, May 15 ($24 in advance; $26 at the door); the Caffe’s big anniversary celebration with Alan Chartock & the Berkshire Ramblers at 7pm on Saturday, May 18 ($35); Tift Merritt at 7pm on Tuesday, May 21 ($22 in advance; $24 at the door); the Grand Slambovians at 8pm on Friday, May 24 ($27 in advance; $29 at the door); Ariana Gillis with Ashley Sofia at 7pm on Saturday, May 25 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door); and monologist David Greenberger & A Strong Dog at 8pm on Friday, May 31 ($15 in advance; $17 at the door).
The Van Dyck in Schenectady will host a concert by the Bruce Barth/Steve Nelson Quartet at 7:30pm on Friday, June 21. In addition to pianist Barth and vibes player Nelson, the jazz foursome will also feature drummer Michael Benedict and bassist Mike Lawrence, both of Bopitude.
Knoxville-based Americana quintet the Black Lillies are scheduled to make a tour stop at the Ale House in Troy at 8pm on Tuesday, July 9, in support of their new album Runaway Freeway Blues. Tickets are $10.
Boston’s beloved Dropkick Murphys will play an outdoor concert at Holyoke’s Mountain Park at 8pm on Friday, August 16. Swingin’ Utters open the show. Tickets are general admission, cost $31 and go on sale on Friday (May 10).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The full line-up and schedule of performances has been announced for the free Art On Lark street festival coming up next month. Among the bands slated to perform on the two stages are the Dependents, Holly & Evan, Party Boat, Ramblin Jug Stompers, Hand Habits, the North & South Dakotas and lots more.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: As winners of last week’s Downtown Albany Blues Music Competition, Blues Sanctuary and the Tom Healey Band will both be performing at the free Alive at Five concert in Albany’s Riverfront Park at 5pm on Thursday, July 25.
UPDATE: Although we announced it several weeks ago, tickets for the Nick Lowe concert at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Wednesday, August 21 are finally on sale. Tickets are $45.
OPENERS: Leagues has been tapped as the opening act for the Airborne Toxic Event concert at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Thursday, June 20.
