MUSIC: Albany Symphony Orchestra @ Carnegie Hall, New York City. With guest pianist Kevin Cole, David Alan Miller leads the ASO as they return to the world famous theater for a concert that features Morton Gould’s Symphony No. 3, John Harbison’s Suite from The Great Gatsby and George Gershwin’s Second Rhapsody. 7:30pm. $25. NOTE: Seats are still available on buses sponsored by ASO, slated to depart at 12noon.

TALK: Stephen Sondheim @ Hudson Valley Community College’s Maureen Stapleton Theatre, Troy. A conversation with the legendary American stage composer conducted by Mary Darcy of All Over Albany. With music by Sonny & Perley. 6:30pm. $25. UPDATE: This event is officially sold out.

READING/PERFORMANCE: Nitty Gritty Poetry Slam @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Sign-up at 7pm; open mic at 7:30pm; slam at 8pm. $5; students $3.

READING/PERFORMANCE: Head-To-Head Haiku @ yBar, Pittsfield. Hosted by Melissa Quirk, the event is similar to a poetry with poets competing in pairs, head-to-head with a 17-syllable limit. 8pm.
