Skidmore Summer Jazz Institute Announces Concerts

The annual Skidmore Summer Jazz Institute will once again be presenting a series of concerts at the Zankel Music Center on the campus of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. And once again, the concert series will feature some world-class musicians.

But there is a change this summer. In the past, the concerts had always been presented free of charge, but this year there will be a nominally admission charge to the four evening concerts. The two matinee performances by the Jazz Institute students will remain admission free.

Here’s the schedule for the 2013 Skidmore Summer Jazz Institute’s concert series:

Tuesday, June 25, 8pm: THE RAVI COLTRANE QUARTET: Ravi Coltrane, Blue Note recording artist and son of jazz legend John Coltrane, leads his quartet that also features Adam Rogers, Dezron Douglas and Jonathan Blake. $8; $5 seniors; FREE students & children.

Thursday, June 27, 8pm: THE SKIDMORE FACULTY SEXTET: Featuring Bill Cunliffe, Todd Coolman, Dennis Mackrel, Pat LaBarbera, Bobby Shew, Mike Rodriguez, Jim Pugh and Curtis Fuller. $8; $5 seniors; FREE students & children.

Friday, June 28, 1pm: Concerts by students participating in the institute. FREE.

Tuesday, July 2, 8pm: THE VINCENT GARDNER QUINTET: Trombonist Gardner of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra leads this quintet that also includes Carlos Henriquez, Ali Jackson and Sherman Irby. $8; $5 seniors; FREE students & children.

Thursday, July 4, 8pm: THE SKIDMORE FACULTY SEXTET: Featuring Bill Cunliffe, Todd Coolman, Dennis Mackrel, Pat LaBarbera, Bobby Shew, Mike Rodriguez, Jim Pugh and Curtis Fuller. $8; $5 seniors; FREE students & children.
