When Vivian Girls leader Cassie Ramone first teamed up with Kevin Morby of Woods, it was just as a fun side-project away from their respective, rapidly rising, Brooklyn-based noise-pop bands. But it didn’t take long before they realized that the Babies – as they called themselves – were something considerably more than that.
Following their 2011 self-titled debut album on Shrimper Records, their New Images EP and a big batch of singles on various other record labels, the Babies – now buttressed by drummer Justin Sullivan (of Bossy) and bassist Brian Schleyer – uncorked their sophomore album Our House On the Hill last November, and their current spring tour will be making a stop at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany on Friday night (May 3).
Opening for the Babies will be Saratoga surf-rockers Party Boat and Birthdays (the experimental project of Boston ex-pat Samual Yager). Showtime is 8:30pm, and tickets are $11 in advance; $13 at the door.
BUT WAIT… there’s more. We’re giving away a pair of FREE TICKETS for the Babies to some lucky Nippertown reader! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win. Deadline to enter is 12noon on Friday (May 3). The winner will be selected at random and notified on Friday afternoon. Good luck! Congratulations to the winner, who has been notified by email.
And on a sad note, Nicole Dellarocca of Dellarocca Booking, who has brought so many great shows to Valentine’s over the past couple of years, is leaving the Local 518 behind and relocating to Brooklyn, so this will be her farewell show in town. Stop down to wish her well and give her a big send-off…
