4/18/13: Today’s Tips: Thursday

MUSIC: Ninety Miles @ College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center, Albany. Jazz vibraphone virtuoso (and Albany native) Stefon Harris teams up with saxophonist David Sanchez and trumpeter Nicholas Payton to explore the intersection of jazz and Cuban music. 7:30pm. $30.

FILM: “Quay Brothers: Selections from Phantom Museums” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. A screening program of the short films of the Quay Brothers, identical twins renowned for their stop-motion animated films that combine puppetry and painstakingly detailed handmade sets. Simply magnificent, mesmerizing stuff… 7:30pm. $6.

MUSIC: Aimee Mann @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The sublime alt-pop singer-songwriter lands in Hudson in support of her latest album Charmer. Ted Leo opens the show, and you can bet that they’ll also perform together as #BOTH, a Mann/Leo collaboration. 8pm. $60.

MUSIC: NRBQ @ the Ale House, Troy. Omni-pop piano pounder Terry Adams and his band mates make their Ale House debut – and their first Capital Region tour stop since bassist Casey McDonough joined the fold. Get there early – this one’s gonna fill up fast. 8pm. $30.

MUSIC: Scotty McCreery @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. The “American Idol” winner and country singer with the deep baritone voice makes his Capital Region headlining debut. With opening act Sarah Darling. 7:30pm. $42.50, $52.50 & $62.50.

ART/MUSIC/ETC.: “We’re All Water: An Homage to Yoko Ono” @ Skidmore College’s Tang Museum, Saratoga Springs. Air Talk presents an evening of participatory, Yoko Ono-inspired events, including group sing-a-longs, performances and art-making. 6pm.

ART TALK: Mike Joyce @ the Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy.
