The Alan Evans Trio

The Alan Evans Trio

Alan Evans is, of course, best known as the driving percussive force behind the soul-jazz organ trio torchbearers Soulive. But the dynamic drummer has also made a name for himself with his spin-off project, the Alan Evans Trio, who have just released their sophomore album Merkaba. It’s full of funky syncopation, pulsing grooves and rubbery rhythms that should keep the dance-floor crowded.

In support of the new album, the Alan Evans Trio – which also features guitarist Danny Mayer and keyboardist Beau Sasser – is in the midst of coast-to-coast tour that will touch down in Albany at Red Square on Friday night (April 19).

Adding to the groove-alicious vibe of the night, Nippertown’s own jazz-funkateers the Chronicles will open the show at 9pm. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.

BUT WAIT… there’s more. We’re giving away a pair of FREE TICKETS for the Alan Evans Trio to some lucky Nippertown readers! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win. Deadline to enter is 12noon on Friday (April 19). The winner will be selected at random and notified on Friday afternoon. Good luck! Congratulations to the winner, who has been notified by email.
