The final competition in the fourth annual Garage to Glory battle of the bands took place on Friday night, and out of the fray emerged the winner, Drew & the Grand Spectacular. It seems only fitting that the grand prize goes to the Grand Spectacular. And as the grand prize winners, D&GS will soon be recording an EP and filming an in-studio music video, a prize package valued at $4,000.
Living up to their name, the band performed four songs with a sprawling line-up of musicians that included Nick “Scoops” Dardaris, Keith Fontaine, Kevin Carey, Tom Baxter, Nolle Ricci, Dave Dreifus, Lillierose Ruby-Eck, Marilla Gucwa, Nicole DeMarco, Jaimen Hume, Dan Denette, John Fatuzzo and, of course, bandleader Drew Tirella.
The battle of the bands was held at the College of Saint Rose in Albany on Friday night, and the panel of judges for the competition included music industry professionals Bernie Walters (of Indian Ledge Music Group), Aaron Scher (of Cotton Hill Studios) and Greg Bell (of Guthrie Bell Productions).
Congrats go out to all, including the other bands who performed in the competition’s final round on Friday – the Digital Dharma, the Meishlunday, Puddlejumper and the Response Ability.
