Congrats to former Nippertonian Kaitee Page and her band Lunic, whose song “War was recently named the Grand prize winner in the electronic category of the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Now based in NYC, Lunic will be back in Albany for a hometown show as part of the MOVE Music Festival on Saturday, April 27.
The annual Fence Show at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy rolls around earlier on the calendar than usual this year. Artists can submit works from Wednesday-Saturday, May 1-4. The Fence Salon exhibition will run from May 18-June 16. This year’s juror, MASS MoCA curator Denise Markonish, will then choose approximately 50 pieces from the Fence Salon to be exhibited in the Fence Select Show, on display from June 28 – July 28. Last year, “Ballin’ at the Graveyard” – a feature documentary by local filmmakers Basil Anastassiou & Paul Kentoffio about playing pick-up basketball on Albany’s Washington Park courts – had a six-week run at the Spectrum 8 Theatres. Now the film is having its out-of-town premiere, having been selected for the 27th annual Washington, DC International Film Festival on Saturday, April 13.
