Vermont-bred southern rock? It might sound like a contradiction, but Burlington-based Waylon Speed just may be the future of southern rock.
They describe their hard-rockin’, twang-laced sound as “underground outlaw dirt rock,” and they’ll be making their Capital Region debut on Friday night (March 22) at Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs. Led by frontman Kelly Ravin, the hell-bent quartet promises that you’ll have a roarin’ good time.
And opening the show? Well, they just released their debut album Big Dipper a few months ago, but big changes were in the air for Saratoga Springs’ country-rockers Headband Jack. There was a shake-up in the line-up, with HBJ’s co-founder Zachary Hay (acoustic guitar, vocals), Mark Retajczyk (electric guitar, vocals) and Colin Hunt (bass) rounding up new recruits Anna French (piano, vocals) and Michael Graves (drums) and then re-emerging on the Local 518 Americana scene with a new name, the North & South Dakotas.
BUT WAIT… there’s more. We’re giving away a pair of FREE TICKETS for Waylon Speed and the North & South Dakotas to a lucky Nippertown reader! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win. Deadline to enter is 12noon on Friday (March 22).
