– 1995 vintage Kenny Chesney
Last week, our Flashback Friday Pop Quiz was:
George Jones is marking the end of an era this year with his retirement/farewell tour, which he’s aptly dubbed “The Grand Tour.”
Jones and his former wife Tammy Wynette were no longer married when the long-reigning King & Queen of Country Music played their final Capital Region concert together. When and where was the concert? And who was their opening act?
ANSWER: The last Local 518 George & Tammy concert took place at Glens Falls Civic Center on October 27, 1995. Wynette had cancelled her half of the double-bill concert with Merle Haggard at the Starlite Music Theatre earlier in that year, but she was in fine voice at GFCC.
And their opening act? That would be none other than Kenny Chesney, who returns to the Capital Region for a headlining concert at Albany’s Times Union Center on Thursday (March 21). The show kicks off at 7pm with opening act performances by Kacey Musgraves and the Eli Young Band. Tickets are $40.50 & $78.
