Just a reminder: The entry deadline for this year’s exhibition of Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region is Wednesday, March 27. The exhibit will be held at the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls from October 12 – December 29. Dan Cameron, chief curator at the Orange County Museum of Art, will be the juror.

We love the fact that there was an actual snowman on hand when the Snow Man in Troy opened for the 2013 season last Saturday…

The Circle Theatre Players is calling for submissions of one-act plays centered around the theme of “Around the World.” Previously unproduced short plays (10-30 minutes) are being sought, and the selected plays will be performed at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts in Averill Park during the One-Act Play Festival from October 17-20. There is no entry fee. Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, May 15. Go here for complete rules.

In honor of International Womens Day last Friday, WEXT-FM played their Top 200 countdown of Women Who Rock. We were all set to get in EXT’s face about the ridiculousness of trying to rank art – (Lauryn Hill at No. 57? Way too high. And really, Dusty Springfield is only No. 24? She’s an easy Top 10 in our book.) But then as we were driving around Albany, we heard Tammy Wynette and Eartha Kitt in the same set. And Sarah Vaughan followed by ABBA. And we realized how lucky we were to have a radio station right here in Nippertown with such big ears… Here’s the whole Top 200 countdown, if you wanna argue amongst yourselves.

This winter isn’t officially over just yet, but the folks at the Saratoga Arts Center are already thinking about next winter – New Year’s Eve, to be exact. They’re seeking applicants for First Night Saratoga – performers in dance, comedy, theater and performance art, as well as musicians in a wide range of styles, including classical, country, rock, roots, world music, alternative and beyond. Singer-songwriter Sandy McKnight has released his new single, “No One in This World,” recorded with an all-star line-up of musicians including drummer Gary Burke, bassist Graham Maby and guitarist Earl Slick. The single is now available via CDBaby.
