The City of Albany and the Downtown BID is presenting its second annual Downtown Albany Blues Music Contest from 5-9pm on Friday, May 3 at a variety of downtown venues.
Similar to the Downtown Albany Jazz Fest Competition, the Blues Music Contest will feature a number of local and regional blues bands each performing at a different venue along the Pearl Street corridor, and audience members will be able to roam from club to club listening to the bands and voting for their favorites.
An application for bands interested in participating must be submitted by 3pm on Monday, March 25, along with two songs (mp3 files) and a promotional photo (jpeg format). Applications can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Or you can also mail or drop off your application in person to the BID office at 40 North Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12207.
A panel of judges will choose contestants to perform on May 3, and the top two performers of the evening – as judged by audience voting and a judge – will win the opportunity to perform at the upcoming Alive at Five Blues Night (date TBA) at Albany’s Riverfront Park this summer.
All bands chosen to compete in the Friday night competition will be paid $200 for their performance. The two winning bands will also receive $500 for their Alive at Five performance.
