A very tasty new addition to this summer’s concert schedule at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs is the return of banjo master Bela Fleck.
Fleck has been a longtime regular at Nippertown venues playing in a wide variety of configurations – solo; with the Flecktones; with the Sparrow Quartet; with the New York Banjo Extravaganza; and with more than a dozen African musicians, to name a few.
When he steps into the spotlight at SPAC on Wednesday, August 21, he’ll be entering a whole new realm, however. He’ll be the guest soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
With Giancarlo Guerrero conducting the Philly Orchestra, the program will feature Shostakovich’s Festival Overture, Falla’s Three Cornered Hat Suite No. 2 and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espangnol, as well as Fleck’s own composition, Concerto for Banjo and Orchestra.
