FUNDRAISER/MUSIC: Explore the Night @ Longfellows Restaurant, Saratoga Springs. The fall fundraising gala with the Saratoga Arts Center featuring great food, conversation and the hot blues of Collette & the Mudcats. 5:30pm. $75; $35 for those under 35.

MUSIC: Keith Pray’s Big Soul Ensemble @ the Van Dyck, Schenectady. Modern-day big band sounds. 8pm. FREE.

FILM: “United in Anger: A History of ACT UP” @ the Sanctuary for Independent Media, Troy. Before there was Occupy Wall Street or the Arab Spring, there was ACT UP… the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power. Twenty five years ago, filmmaker Jim Hubbard began his documentary about the incredible grassroots fight against AIDS and the U.S. government. Hubbard will discuss the film and ACT UP following the screening. A pot-luck dinner with Hubbard will take place at 6pm; bring something to share. Screening at 7pm. $10 suggested donation; $5 student/low income.

MUSIC: Zs @ BSP Lounge, Kingston. The avant garde trio features Sam Hillmer (tenor saxophone), Patrick Higgins (guitar/electronics) and Greg Fox (drums). With Brooklyn’s Ava Luna. The concert will conclude with an ensemble performance of Terry Riley’s minimalist masterpiece “In C.” 9pm. $5.

READING/PERFORMANCE: Nitty Gritty Poetry Slam @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. With featured poet Influence from New Haven. 7pm sign-up; 7:30pm open mic; 8pm slam. $5; students $3.
