MASS MoCA in North Adams has announced a pair of new concerts for its 2013 performance events calendar.
Combining funky Afrobeat rhythms and infectious electronica elements, Brooklyn’s Superhuman Happiness not only keeps the dance floor hopping, but also offers a charismatic concert as well. Led by tenor saxophonist-conductor-composer Stuart Bogie, the band is slated to roar into MASS MoCA’s Club B-10 at 8pm on Saturday, February 2 for a Groundhog’s Day celebration you won’t forget. Tickets are $12 in advance; $16 at the door; students $10.
Meanwhile, My Robot Friend – an ensemble that exists at the intersection of performance art, pyrotechnics and electronic dance music – brings it musically and visually unique performance to Club B-10 at 8pm on Saturday, February 23. It’s all the brainchild of Howard Robot, who slips into his homemade costume/suit of LED lights and duct tape to merge the high-tech with the lo-tech as he interacts with an array of intricate illuminated objects, wireless video cameras, synchronized videos and other odd homemade props. Tickets are $12 in advance; $16 at the door; students $10.
NOTE: And while we’re on the topic of upcoming shows at MASS MoCA, you should be aware that “early worm” three-day tickets for the third Solid Sound Festival – curated by Wilco and taking place at MASS MoCA from June 21-23 – are now on sale for $99.
