Pete Kennedy, What Was the First Album You Ever Bought?

The Kennedys

The Kennedys

“Like many others, I started my record collection with ‘Meet the Beatles.’ I bought it at the local five & dime, a type of shop that has disappeared in the age of mass marketing. Record stores were rare in those days – maybe one or two in the downtown area of big cities. Suburban kids like myself bought records at the five & dime or at Sears.

As I read the liner notes, I wondered at the words ‘Produced by George Martin.’ If the Beatles made the music, then who was this Martin guy? Now that I’ve spent years studying what George Martin did, I wonder if people ever look at CDs that I’ve produced, thinking ‘Who is this Kennedy guy, anyway?’ I guess part of the fun of producing is that there is no real job description. Anyway, ‘Meet the Beatles’ was my introduction to the whole concept and my first album.”

In support of their new album, “Closer Than You Know,” The Kennedys Pete Kennedy and his wife Maura Kennedy – bring their shimmering folk-rock sound to Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs on Saturday night (December 1). Showtime is 8pm, and tix are $15 in advance; $17 at the door.
