A double-barreled blast of hot, high-energy, groove-a-licious music is on tap at the Bayou Cafe in Albany on Saturday night (November 17) when New Orleans soul-rockers the Revivalists share the stage with Chicago’s own jam-band-flavored soul-rockers Van Ghost.
On the road in support of their recently released album, City of Sound, Crescent City septet the Revivalists have fused together soulful, syncopated rock with earnest, meticulously crafted songwriting. And while their album is a dizzyingly delightful blend of diverse musical influences, where the band really comes to life on stage with gritty vocalist David Shaw in the spotlight. Rounding out the band’s line-up are pedal steel guitarist Ed Williams, guitarist Zack Feinberg, saxophonist Rob Ingraham, bassist George Gekas, drummer Andrew Campanelli and keyboardist-trumpeter Michael Girardot. In 2011, the band was named Best Emerging Artist at the prestigious Gambit Magazine’s Big Easy Awards, and were nominated for Best Rock Act this year.
Howling out of the Windy City comes Van Ghost, led by singer-songwriter-guitarist Michael Harris Berg, who shares the vocal spotlight in the band with Jennifer Hartswick, longtime vocalist with the Trey Anastasio Band who has also shared the stage with Herbie Hancock, the Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band and others. The band also features the telepathic interplay of guitarist Grant Tye, drummer Greg Marsh and bassist Klem Hayes. Van Ghost is touring in support of their debut fill-length album, The Domino Effect.
