Two large screens stand six-feet apart in a black space, each showing a different view of the first dress rehearsal of the “Wall” dance.
Surround sound envelops the space, creating an aural rhythm to match the beautifully noisy visual of the looped video.
In an adjacent white space, two dancers from the original cast – Darrell Jones and Gesel Mason – perform their solo versions of “Wall,” live, one after the other, in the same dance time as the videos…
Choreographer Ralph Lemon’s bold “4Walls” is an expansion of his dance piece “Wall.” It’s a multi-media installation with live performance that provides four points of view on one dance, giving a new shape to the “dance with no form.”
Commissioned by EMPAC, Lemon created “4Walls” in collaboration with videographer Shoko Letton and editor Mike Taylor, and the new work will have its world premiere at EMPAC at RPI’s Studio 1 in Troy at 8pm on Friday (November 16) and at 4pm on Saturday (November 17). Tickets are $18; students and seniors $13.
