MUSIC: Civil Twilight @ the Bayou Cafe, Albany. With Northern Faces. The South African alt-rock trio returns to town for a free concert in support of their sophomore album, “Holy Weather.” 7:30pm. FREE.

THEATER: “Des Moines” @ UAlbany Performing Arts Center Recital Hall, Albany. A staged reading of Denis Johnson’s new play-in-progress. Followed by commentary and Q&A with the playwright. 7pm. FREE. Also, free seminar at 4:15pm at UAlbany Campus Center Assembly Hall.

MUSIC: MaMbo KiKongo @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Latin percussionist Carlos Valdez leads the firey Latin funk band. 8pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Bernarda Fink @ Union College’s Memorial Chapel, Schenectady. The Argentine mezzo-soprano performs Schumann, Dvorak and Mahler accompanied by pianist Anthony Spiri. 8pm. $25.
