Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

Straight outta New Orleans, Big Sam’s Funky Nation are headed back to Albany. Last year, they dropped the can’t-stop-dancin’, brass-band funk-bomb on fans as one of the headliners at the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival. This time around, trombonist Big Sam Williams and his funky bunch are headed into Red Square in Albany on Friday, November 9. Nippertown’s own horn-fueled funkateers Oobleck open the show at 9pm. Tix are $10. And don’t forget your dancing shoes…

Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs has landed a couple hot new shows, including the triple-bill of Railbird, Cuddle Magic and the Daredevil Christopher Wright at 9pm on Thursday, November 8 ($8); and the Figgs’ 25th anniversary holiday show (with Guy Lyons joining in the celebration) on Saturday, December 22 ($TBA).

POSTPONED: Due to complications from Hurricane Sandy, the fab ‘n’ funny folk duo Lou & Peter Berryman have been forced to cancel their early November tour, including at stop at the Eighth Step at Proctors in Schenectady that was scheduled for Saturday (November 3). The Eighth Step show has been re-scheduled for 7:30pm on Saturday, April 6.

Pentatonix – the Arlington, Texas-based a cappella quintet who emerged as winners of season three of NBC-TV’s “The Sing-Off” – bring their imaginative, instrument-free arrangements to the Calvin Theatre in Northampton at 8pm on Saturday, February 23. Priced at $25, tix are slated to go on sale on Friday (November 2).

SOLD OUT: The Bob Warren Band returns to Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs for a pair of shows on Saturday night (November 3), but the early show (6:30pm) is currently sold out. But there are still tix available for the 9pm late show ($16 in advance).

Brooklyn-based electronic dance music duo Break Science pump it up in support of their latest EP, Monolith Code, at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany on Friday, December 7. Michal Menert kicks off the festivities at 8pm. Tix are $14 in advance.

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES: Dillon Francis’ Wet & Reckless tour – which was originally slated to make a stop at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany on Thursday, November 8 – has changed venues in the wake of the foam party ruckus at the Armory earlier this month. The event will now be held at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park. Also featuring Clockwork, Baauer, Alex English, rekLES, Kloud 9 and Trevmunz. Doors open at 7pm.

Lake Street Dive delivered a knock-out show at Club Helsinki in Hudson last weekend. In fact, the show was so good that the band was immediately booked back for a return appearance at 9pm on Friday, January 18.

A pair of special holiday concerts have been announced for SPAC’s Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Springs. Kevin McKrell will once again lead the McKrells into the theater for the annual “Saratoga Christmas with the McKrells” show at 7:30pm on Saturday, December 8. Tix are $15. And Seth & the Moody Melix will be returning for a children’s holiday concert at 6:30pm on Friday, December 21. Tix are $10; children $5.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Comedian Bruce Bruce is alted to bring a few laughs to your January doldrums with a newly booked performance at The Egg in Albany. Tix are slated to go on sale on Friday (November 2).

CANCELLED: The performance by Bellydance Superstars – which was originally slated to take place at The Egg in Albany at 7:30pm on Friday, November 16 – has been cancelled. Refunds are available at the place of purchase.

Mike + Ruthy team up with the Wiyos at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock on Saturday, February 16. Additional details TBA.

SOLD OUT: Tonight’s Halloween concert with headliner Pierce the Veil at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park is now officially sold out.
