Ritz Carlton

NAME: Ian “Ritz” Carlton
BAND AFFILIATION: Los Straitjackets, Knyghts of Fuzz, the Lustre Kings, Rocky Velvet
INSTRUMENT: Guitar, Drums, Keyboard… Whatever you need!

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin. I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I’m not good at lying.

2. THE FIRST CONCERT THAT I EVER SAW WAS … My father took me to see the Stray Cats at SPAC when I was seven or eight years old. I still think “Stray Cat Strut” is one of the coolest songs ever.

3. THE FIRST MUSICAL INSTRUMENT I EVER OWNED OR PLAYED WAS … The tuba at PS16 on North Allen Street in Albany. I had to lug it back and forth to school and home on the city bus.

4. THE FIRST SONG THAT I EVER PERFORMED IN PUBLIC WAS … “The Race Is On” by George Jones, on the lawn at Emma Willard. Graham Tichy was playing guitar!

5. THE FIRST BAND I WAS EVER IN WAS … Trinity Club. Bad name, worse band. Also with Graham Tichy!

Ian Carlton teams up with guitarslinger Graham Tichy and the other members of Rocky Velvet for a reunion of the beloved Cropseyville rockabilly combo at 10pm on Friday (October 19) at Daisy Baker’s in Troy. Admission is $10.
