Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

As we announced last week, Killswitch Engage will perform their landmark 2002 album, Alive or Just Breathing, in its entirety at the Pearl Street Ballroom in Northampton on Wednesday, December 19. Now it’s been announced that the band will also be playing at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Saturday, December 29. Sharing the stage at UCH will be Shadows Fall, Periphery and Acaro. Showtime is 7:30pm, and advance tix will go on sale at 10am on Friday (October 19), priced at $25.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: At 8pm tonight (October 17), The Egg in Albany is hosting “An Evening of Modern Movement & Traditional Music” featuring the acrobatics and comedy of Galumpha, Heidy Latsky Dance, acoustic roots music duo Mike + Ruthy, acoustic blues queen Rory Block, the world music of Sonic Escape and the percolating cross-cultural percussion of the Drummers of MoHu, led by Brian Melick. Admission is FREE.

The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington as announced a handful of new shows, including Masters of the Fiddle featuring Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy at 7pm on Sunday, March 24 ($35, $47 & $67); humorist David Sedaris at 8pm on Saturday, April 6 ($50 & $65); Circus Shanghai: Bai Xi at 7pm on Friday, April 26 ($35; ages 12 and under $25).

OPENERS: As we announced last month, in addition to her tour stop at MASS MoCA in North Adams on Friday, October 26, fab young British singer-songwriter Laura Marling will also play a date at the Colony Cafe in Woodstock on Thursday, October 25. Now it’s been announced that Nippertown’s own Sean Rowe will be Marling’s opening act in Woodstock, kicking off the show at 8pm. Tix are $30 in advance, and can be purchased here.

Multi-culti LA band Ozomatli takes over Williams College’s Lasell Gymnasium in Williamstown at 10pm on Friday (October 19) with their hybrid mash-up of hip hop and salsa, samba and funk, East LA R&B and New Orleans second-line strut.

CANCELLED: The all-gal Albany all-star combo Babe City has cancelled their concert originally slated for the Steamer No. 10 Theatre in Albany on Saturday (October 20). Refunds are available at the place of purchase.

According to his website, Grammy and Tony Award-winning singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik will be making a tour stop at the Colony Cafe in Woodstock on Monday, November 5.

Fuzzed-out San Francisco quintet Young Prisms land at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany on Tuesday, November 6 in support of their latest slab of shoegaze dream-pop, In Between. Careers and Sun Burdens open the show at 8:30pm. Tix are $8 in advance; $10 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hip-hop superstar Nas is headed into the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany next month with Jadakiss and Jhene Aiko.

New shows booked for the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock include the Grand Slambovians at 9pm on Friday, November 23 ($20); the Marc Black Band with special guest Warren Bernhardt and an opening set by Amy Fradon at 9pm on Saturday, November 24 ($20); and Ultravox’s post-John Foxx frontman Midge Ure with Right the Stars at 9pm on Saturday, January 12 ($25).

POSTPONED: The De La Soul concert at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park – most recently scheduled for Friday, November 9 – has been postponed for the second time.

Tony Award-winner and two-time Obie Award-winner Stew & the Negro Problem perform on the Main Stage at Williams College’s ’62 Center in Williamstown at 8pm on Saturday, November 10. Admission is free, but tix are required.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Palace Theatre in Albany announced the line-up for its annual New Year’s Eve Comedy Blast, which will feature up-and-coming stand-up comics Travon Free, Eli Braden, Halli Borgfjord and Pauly Casillas. Tix go on sale on Friday (October 19).
