Retro-Pop Trio the Bandana Splits at Mass MoCA’s Club Oct. 6 [Berkshire on Stage]

The Bandana Splits are from the era when you needed a dime for the payphone and a nickel for the jukebox, and you were lucky to get past first base.

North Adams, MA – The Bandana Splits bring nostalgic charm to Mass MoCA’s Club B-10 on Saturday, October 6, 8 PM. The Brookyn-based trio — Dawn Landes, Lauren Balthrop, and Annie Nero — recreates the bubblegum pop and doo-wop styles of the 1950s and ’60s with upbeat three-part harmonies featuring ukuleles, guitars, and even kazoos.

Balthrop and Nero met Landes in 2008 when they invited her to perform in their band’s holiday show and they discovered a shared love of retro-pop music. This sound, inspired by great girl groups of the past, is a recent trend in pop music — artists such as Adele, Janelle Monáe, and the late Amy Winehouse celebrate this type of music too. The spirit of bands such as The Ronettes and The Caravelles infuses the soul of the Bandana Splits.
