Story by Tim Livingston
It will be a homecoming of sorts as experimental indie-pop band Yassou Benedict returns to the town in which they took root, Hudson, NY, for a special one-off performance at Club Helsinki at 8pm on Thursday (September 27).
Now based in San Francisco, the band – featuring members Lilie Bytheway-Hoy (vocals, bass), James Jackson (guitar), A.J. Krumholz (guitar, keyboards) and Patrick Aguirre (drums) – is back in town recording their forthcoming debut full-length album. Both haunting and ethereal, their music is tightly composed with densely layered harmonies and complex rhythmic structures, which promise to make for a most intriguing evening of sound.
In addition, the band has invited some special guests from their Hudson musical past to join them on stage at Club Helsinki, including rap prodigy Young Paris (of Black N Gold) and Johanna Warren (of Sticklips).
As, who knows, maybe they’ll even uncork their cool cover of Phantogram’s “Night Life”:
