“I don’t remember the first album that I bought, but I remember the first record that I heard that really struck a chord in me. It was Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys. It was their Foggy Mountain Banjo album.

I was probably about ten years old at the time, and I just loved that record. That’s what made me want to learn to play the banjo.”

Pioneering banjo player Alison Brown and her band take the stage at the FreshGrass Bluegrass Festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams this weekend.
