Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

Up in Saratoga Springs, Skidmore College will host its annual fall concert featuring soulman Mayer Hawthorne at 9pm on Friday, October 12. Cults will open the show at Williamson Sports and Recreation Center. Tix are $25 in advance; $30 at the door.

The Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park has added a couple more big shows to its November concert calendar. Canadian rockers the Tragically Hip roll in at 9pm on Thursday, November 15; priced at $35, tix go on sale at 10am on Friday (September 21). And Anberlin rocks the stage on Saturday, November 17, with Morning Trade and IAMWE opening the show at 7:30pm; priced at $16, advance tix go on sale at 12noon on Friday (September 21).

Whoa! Definitely didn’t see this one coming… Three of the original members of the pioneering ’60s band the Blues Project are reuniting and hitting the stage at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock. Guitarists Danny Kalb and Steve Katz will be teaming up with drummer Roy Blumenfeld for a concert at 9pm on Saturday, November 17. Tix are $30.

IN CASE YOU MISSED: Veteran headbangers Lamb of God will be roaring into the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls in November. Support acts include In Flames, Hatebreed and Sylosis. Tix go on sale on Friday (September 21).

The Falcon in Marlboro has an impressive line-up of performances slated for the fall season. A few of the highlights include blueswoman Alexis P. Suter at 7pm on Friday, September 28; the funky but chic David Johansen Duo with Bianca Merkley at 7pm on Saturday, September 29; Dutch jazz vocalist Fleurine with special guest pianist Brad Mehldau at 7pm on Sunday, October 7; the Jon Herington Band with Robert Morsberger at 7pm on Friday, October 12; the Tisziji Munoz Quartet featuring John Medeski, Don Pate and Bob Moses at 7pm on Sunday, October 21; the Garland Jeffreys Acoustic Duo at 7pm on Sunday, November 4. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Comedian Kevin Hart’s performance at the Times Union Center in Albany has been postponed from its original date of Friday, September 28…

Jazz bassist-composer Avery Sharpe and his sextet – pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs, drummer Yoron Israel, saxman Craig Handy, trumpeter Duane Eubanks and vocalist Jeri Brown – perform a concert of compositions based on the life of Sojourner Truth at Williams College’s Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall in Williamstown at 8pm on Friday, September 28. Admission is free.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock announced four more new concerts, including super soulman Charles Bradley, Stephane Wrembel, Robert Randolph & the Family Band and the New Riders of the Purple Sage.

Following a knockout performance leading his Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra at SPAC’s Freihofer Saratoga Jazz Festival this summer, pianist Arturo O’Farrill returns to Nippertown, leading a more compact combo into the Wedgewood Inn in Schoharie at 4pm on Saturday (September 22). Tix are $25.

The Kenny Endo Trio – one of the leading contemporary percussion groups in the vanguard of the Taiko drumming genre – comes to Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center in Saratoga Springs for a concert at 8pm on Thursday, October 4. Tix are $8; seniors $5.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: “Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack Show” was originally scheduled for the Palace Theatre in Albany back on March 23. Then it was postponed to Saturday, September 15. Then it was postponed yet again… The latest date for the tribute show is Thursday, May 9, 2013.

    i don’t think a blues project reunion without al kooper really counts. kalb and katz aren’t great singers (neither is al, but he’s better than them), and no keys? i suspect we’ll be hearing a 35 minute jam of ‘flute thing’.
