Festival Fever: FreshGrass Festival @ MASS MoCA, 9/21-23/12

The second annual FreshGrass Festival takes place at MASS MoCA in North Adams this weekend, and just like last year’s inaugural hoedown, the bash promises to turn the whole museum into a bluegrass amusement park, with a collection of diverse bands and musicians at the center of the bluegrass festivities.

The festivities get underway on Friday evening (September 21) indoors at the Hunter Center, and in addition to performances by the Infamous Stringdusters and Spirit Family Reunion, the Friday schedule will kick off with the premiere screening of the bluegrass film, “The Porchlight Sessions.”

Saturday’s slate of music launches at 1:30pm outdoors in Courtyard C (weather permitting), continues all day – the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience headlines – and wraps up with another indoor Hunter Center barn dance featuring the Devil Makes Three.

The Sunday festivities kick off early (11am) with a kids bluegrass workshop, followed by a full day of outdoor pickin’ and singin’ headlined by the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Trampled by Turtles.

Single day tix are $12 for Friday. Saturday and Sunday single-day tix are $25; students $15; ages 16 and under $5. An all-festival three-day pass is $46; students $26; ages 16 and under $16.

UPDATE: At the moment, Saturday and Sunday single-day tix, as well as all-fest three-day passes are sold, depending the weather report for the weekend. If the weather forecast is good, additional festival passes, as well as Saturday-only and Sunday-only tix will go on sale on Thursday (September 20).
