As the 2012 Olympic Summer games opened, North London based Animal Kingdom kicked off its first North American Tour at Jillian’s of Albany on Monday, July 30 – in what turned out to be one of the last big shows to grace Jillian’s stage.
Led by Richard Sauberlich (vocals/guitar/keyboards), bassist Hamish Crombie and drummer Geoff Lea have been together since July, 2008, receiving reams of rave reviews and have already received critical acclaim. The band’s 2009 debut album “Signs and Wonders”, produced by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes,The Shins), earned the band the recognition as the “Best New Alternative Act” by iTunes.
The trio’s latest album “The Looking Away”, released by Mom + Pop Records, has been described as “infectious, kaleidoscopic indie rock with atmospheric melancholia“. The band was featured this summer in several sold-out festivals including Lollapalooza in Chicago, IL and Outsidelands in San Francisco, CA.
