Heartless Bastards up head the list of new shows announced this week for the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park. Singer-guitarist-songwriter Erika Wennerstrom leads the boys into town in support of their new album, “Arrow,” on Thursday, October 25. The Futurebirds are slated to open at 8pm. Tix are $15 in advance; $17 at the door.
Also new on the Upstate Concert Hall calendar are Mike Stud at 8pm on Sunday, October 7 (on sale now for $12 in advance; $14 at the door); 3LAU at 9pm on Thursday, October 18 (on sale now for $12 in advance; $15 at the door); and Falling in Reverse with Enter Shikari, I See Stars and Letlive at 7:30pm on Sunday, November 4 (on sale at 10am on Friday for $18 in advance; $20 at the door).
Following last Sunday’s opening of the “Helsinki On Broadway” cabaret series, the Club Helsinki series has landed a major coup – actor-director-writer-singer-producer-and-more-guy Alan Cumming with Lance Horne at 7pm on Sunday, December 2. Tix are slated to go on sale on Monday, October 1.
The first official announcement of the upcoming fall schedule of events from EMPAC at RPI in Troy is a world premiere performance of Bang On a Can co-founder Michael Gordon’s composition “Rushes”… for seven bassoons. Rachael Elliott, Michael Harley, Lynn Hileman, Dana Jessen, Jeffrey Lyman, Saxton Rose and Maya Stone will be blowing their bassoons at 8pm on Saturday, September 15. Tix are $18; seniors and students $13.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s already played around Nippertown this year with Gov’t Mule and the Allman Brothers Band. Now guitarslinger Warren Haynes is bringing his other other band, the Warren Haynes Band to town for a show at The Egg in Albany. Tix go on sale at 11am on Friday.
With Jillian’s doors now shuttered for good, the nearby Bayou Cafe in Albany is picking up some of the higher profile bands, including Frank Zappa tribute band Project Object (featuring Mothers alum Ray White and Ike Willis) at 8pm on Thursday, September 27. Tix are $18 in advance; $20 at the door. Also upcoming at the downtown Bayou are Tyler Hilton and Dion Roy at 7pm on Thursday, October 4. Tix are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.
Among the new shows on tap at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany are Brothers Past with Timbre Coup at 8pm on Friday, September 28; and Wild Belle at 8:30pm on Saturday, October 6 ($9).
CH-CH-CH-CHANGES: The date for the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall’s concert “Ricky Nelson Remembered” featuring his sons Matthew and Gunnar Nelson has moved from the original date of Saturday, October 27. The new date for the Troy performance is Friday, October 26. Tix purchased for the original date will be honored for the newly re-scheduled Friday performance. Tix are on sale now for $20, $28, $32 & $36.
Old Songs in Voorheesville launches its fall concert season on Saturday, September 15 with “Songs of Woody Guthrie,” an Italian buffet dinner and concert celebrating the centennial of the birth of the great Woody Guthrie with Woody’s music performed by folk faves George Wilson, Bill Spence, Michael Eck, Debra Burger and the duo of duo Roger Mock & Mark Shepard. Dinner at 6pm; concert at 8pm. $25 for dinner & concert; $15 for ages 12 and under. $15 for concert only; $5 for ages 12 and under. The evening is a benefit for the Old Songs Capital Fund.

The all-woman, NYC-based salsa band CocoMama – featuring bandmembers from such far-flung global locales as Cuba, Israel, France, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Australia, Oregon and Wisconsin – will be firing up some smokin’ Latin jazz sounds at UAlbany’s Campus Center Ballroom at 8pm on Saturday, October 27. Tix are $15.
Club Helsinki welcomes singer-songwriter Matthew E. White for a Hudson tour stop at 9pm on Friday, October 12, in support of his recently released album, “Big Inner.”
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Bob Weir announced a solo acoustic concert at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock next month, just three days after his Grateful Dead bandmate Mickey Hart brings his current band into the same venue. Tribute band the Spirit of Johnny Cash featuring Harold Ford play a concert at the Mohawk Theater in North Adams at 8pm on Saturday, September 29 to benefit the Mohawk Theater Restoration Fund and the Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation. Tix are $29; standing room $19; VIP $75; students $12.
OPENERS: The fabulous Sarah Borges has been added as the opening act for Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Real at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Thursday (August 30). Borges has recently stepped up to the microphone to sing “Let’s Spend the Night Together” with Nashville’s Mexican wrestling-masked band of twang instrumental merauders, Los Straitjackets. Tix for the Club Helsinki show on Thursday are $18 in advance; $22 at the door.
Nashville hitmaker Easton Corbin rolls into Vapor in Saratoga Springs at 9pm on Thursday, November 8, in support of his new album, “All Over the Road.” Tix are $20 in advance; $25 at the door.
OPENERS II: Singer-songwriter Eleni Mandell has been confirmed as the opening act for Nick Lowe when he kicks off his fall tour at The Egg in Albany at 7:30pm on Tuesday, September 18. Tix are $29.50.
