In advance of the upcoming Saratoga Performing Arts Center tour stop of the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival in Saratoga Springs (also known as Q-Ruption for the Spa City road trip stop), radio station Q-103FM has been promoting a Battle of the Bands to determine one Local 518 band who will represent the Capital Region at SPAC on Saturday, September 1.
Fan voting and judging narrowed it down to the three final bands – Above the Flood, Mirk and the 7th Squeeze – each of whom battled it out in a toe-to-toe-to-toe concert at Savannah’s/Dublin Underground in Albany on Friday night. (And, oh, by the way, it was also Savannah’s/Dublin Underground’s final weekend in existence, as they’ll be closing their doors for good following tonight’s 8pm performance by the Bing Bamboo Room Burlesque Show emceed by the ever-smilin’ Guy Smiley.)
So, what happened on Friday night during the big battle? Tell me, tell me, tell me… Who won?
Well, it seems that Mirk emerged victorious, and they’ll be strutting their funk-based fusion of rock/hip-hop/old school soul up at SPAC on Saturday, along with all of the headbangers on the Uproar Festival – including Shinedown, Godsmack, Staind, Adelitas Way, P.O.D., Deuce, Fozzy, Redlight King, Mindset Evolution (winner of the 2011 UPROAR Battle of the Bands), In This Moment and Candlelight Red.
Congrats to the Mirksters!
The SPAC gates are scheduled to open at 1:30pm on Saturday, September 1, and the music is slated to begin at 1:50pm. Tix are $39, $49, $59 & $85; lawn $20.
So if ya wanna thrown down your support for local music at SPAC, get there early on Saturday, and cheer on Mirk!
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Papa Roach will not be performing, as originally scheduled…
