“No, I don’t remember the first record that I actually bought, but I remember the first record that was given to me by my mother when I was about seven or eight years old. It was Dinah Washington’s ‘What a Diff’rence a Day Makes.’

My mom bought me a few other records, too, like Earl Bostic, Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan and George Shearing.

Believe it or not, I still have some of those old, scratchy Shearing albums.”

Two-time Grammy Award-winning jazz singer-pianist Diane Schuur teams up with vibraphonist Warren Wolf and a 12-piece band for a special concert, “Celebration of Lionel Hampton,” at the Belleayre Music Festival at Belleayre Mountain in Highmount at 8pm on Saturday (August 4). Tix are $25, $36, $46 & $56. NOTE: Warren Wolf replaces Jason Marsalis, who was originally announced to perform, but has since cancelled his appearance.
