Sunday, October 14 @ The Upstate Concert Hall: Gwar

The Woodstock Playhouse in Woodstock plays host to veteran piano-pounder and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Leon Russell at 8pm on Wednesday, September 19. Tix are $45 & $60.

Austin country twangmasters Lucky Tubb & the Modern Day Troubadours land at the Ale House in Troy at 8pm on Tuesday, August 7. And in support of their upcoming album, “Jet Set,” guitarslinger Eddie Angel leads Los Straitjackets into the Ale House for a rare mid-week, two-night stand on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 2 & 3.

A couple more new bands have been announced for Restoration Festival, which is being held at the former St. Joseph’s Church in Albany on September 7-9. Common Prayer has been added on Friday, September 7, while Hop Along will be kicking off their tour there on Saturday, September 8. Tix are available now: $20 per day on Friday and Sunday; $30 for Saturday; or $40 for the whole three-day shebang.

There’s lottsa stuff goin’ on at Club Helsinki in Hudson… Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real (yeah, that’s Willie Nelson’s son) hit the spotlight at 8pm on Thursday, August 30 ($18 in advance; $22 at the door), and Johnny Society and Spacehog team up for a show at 9pm on Friday, September 14 ($TBA). The Antlers take the stage at 9pm on Friday, September 21 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door), while Dark Dark Dark teams up with Emily Wells at 8pm on Monday, October 8 ($10). Big Sandy & the Fly-Rite Boys rip it up at 9pm on Saturday, October 13 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door, while the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion rolls in at 9pm on Friday, November 2 ($18 in advance; $22 at the door).

Meanwhile upstairs in Club Helsinki’s ballroom, Tuba Skinny will be playing for a swing dance at 8:30pm on Wednesday, August 8 ($15). And if all that’s not enough, the nightspot has also instituted a new “Helsinki on Broadway” cabaret series featuring Faith Prince and Jason Graae at 7pm on Sunday, August 26; Brent Barrett at 7pm on Sunday, September 9; and Dee Hoty at 7pm on Sunday, September 23. Tix for each of the Broadway series shows are $20 & $35.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WEQX-FM has announced the initial line-up of bands for the upcoming third annual PearlPalooza street festival. The free fest on North Pearl Street in Albany will feature Matt & Kim, Robert DeLong, the Royal Concept, Oberhofer, Eastbound Jesus, Wild Adriatic, Barons in the Attic and Mirk. In time to get your Halloween juices flowing, Gwar lands at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Sunday, October 14. The show kicks off at 7:30pm with Devil Driver, Cancer Bats and Legacy of Disorder. Priced at $18 in advance ($20 at the door), tix go on sale at 10am on Friday (July 27).

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES: Jackson Browne’s concert at Mountain Park in Holyoke at 7pm on Wednesday, August 1 was originally billed as a solo performance, but the format has expanded. Browne’s set will now start out as a trio, featuring guitarist Val McCallum and percussionist Fritz Lewak. And the performance will evolve as opening act Sara Watkins and her band join them. Tix are $46, $56 & $76.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Earlier this afternoon, the City of Albany Office for Special Events announced the line-up of bands for the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival. The free September fest in Albany’s Riverfront Park will feature Teri Lynn Carrington’s Mosaic Project (featuring Nona Hendryx and Gretchen Parlato), conga master Pedrito Martinez and his band, trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, guitarslinger Charlie Hunter, Nippertown fusion trio Way Down, and the opening band which will be determined at the Downtown Albany Jazz Competition. Bassnectar thumps into the Mullins Center at UMass Amherst on Thursday, November 15. The evening kicks off at 7pm with Gramatik, GRiZ and Gladkill. Tix are $36 and will go on sale at 10am on Saturday (July 28).

The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock presents ALO at 8pm on Thursday, September 20. Tix are $35 for reserved seats; $20 for general admission. Also at Bearsville: The CKS Band – a powerhouse blues-rock organ trio featuring Randy Ciarlante, Bruce Katz and Scott Sharrard – are slated to take the stage at 9pm on Friday, August 17. Tix are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.

OPENERS: The Jim Keller Band is slated to open for guitarslinger Sonny Landreth at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 9pm on Friday, August 3.

The Calvin Theater in Northampton has announced a batch of new concerts, including John Hiatt & His Combo at 8pm on Saturday, October 6 ($25, $35 & $45); “Lewis Black: Running On Empty” at 8pm on Friday, October 26 ($47.50 & $57.50); Barefoot Truth’s farewell show with Woodword Way at 8pm on Saturday, November 10 ($20); and Led Zep tribute band Get the Led Out at 8pm on Friday, January 18th ($25 & $35). Tix for all four new show go on sale on Friday (July 27).
