The Egg Announces Dance Performances for 2012-2013 Seaon

The Egg in Albany has announced five performances for its 2012-2013 dance series. Tix are currently available to members of The Egg and will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday (July 17).

DAVID DORFMAN DANCE’S “PROPHETS OF FUNK”
Friday, October 19, 8pm
$24; members $22
Since its founding in 1985, David Dorfman Dance has been honored with eight New York Dance and Performance (“Bessie”) Awards. “Prophets of Funk,” the company’s newest project, is a dynamic engagement of movement driven by the popular funk sounds of Sly & the Family Stone. The evening includes a dance class for the audience and a chance to strut your stuff with company members at a post-show dance party.

ELLEN SINOPOLI DANCE COMPANY
Saturday, January 19, 8pm
$24; members $22
Nippertown’s own dance company serves up contemporary movement that celebrates rhythm, energy and musicality. Expect a mix of audience favorites and world premieres at their annual performance at The Egg.

BRIAN BROOKS MOVING COMPANY’S “BIG CITY”
Friday, February 8, 8pm
$24; members $22
“Big City” explores the physical and emotional destruction that takes over nations, communities and individuals, and the rebuilding that follows – combining Brian Brooks’ engaging and accessible contemporary choreography with an innovative set. Other works on the program include “Descent,” “Motor” and Brooks’ signature solo work “I’m Going to Explode.”

PHILADANCO’S “WAKE UP!”
Friday, March 1, 8pm
$24; members $22
Since 1970, the company of dancers has broken barriers and built bridges across cultural divides with contemporary dance performances created by some of the world’s finest choreographers. The tradition continues as the company performs “Wake Up!” by Rennie Harris, as well as other works.

PILOBOLUS’ “CLASSICS”
Sunday, April 21, 7:30pm
$28; members $26
Since 1971, Pilobolus has worn its revolutionary stripes on its collective sleeves with inventive, athletic, witty, collaborative performance works using the human body as a medium for revealing expression. The company will mine their rich and vast repertoire with a performance of their “Classics” program.
