Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

Whoa! On their way down to New Jersey for the All Tomorrow’s Parties bash, post-rock soundscapers Godspeed You! Black Emperor will be making a stop at Basilica Hudson for a concert at 8pm on Thursday, September 20. Tix for the all-ages show in Hudson are $15. And if that’s not enough to get you down to Hudson to experience the way-cool raw factory space that is the Basilica, the enchanting 4AD siren Grimes will be checking in for a concert at 7pm on Tuesday, September 25, with Elite Gymnastics and Myths. Tix are $15.

Minus the Bear is headed into the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Wednesday, September 26, with Cursive slated to open the show at 8pm. Priced at $16 in advance, tix go on sale at 10am on Saturday (July 14). Meanwhile, DJ/producer Datsik leads the Firepower Tour into UCH on Wednesday, September 5, with Delta Heavy and Bare Noize & AFK kicking things off at 8pm. Tix – $22 in advance; $25 at the door – go on sale on Friday (July 13).

Art Garfunkel steps into the spotlight for a concert at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown at 8pm on Saturday, August 11, in support of his upcoming 2-CD set, “The Singer,” a new 34-song retrospective collection that spans Garfunkel’s entire musical career – from the first Simon & Garfunkel album (1964’s “Wednesday Morning, 3 AM”) through 2007’s “Some Enchanted Evening, in addition to a pair of new songs (“Lena” and “Long Way Home”). Tix for the concert are priced at $55 (students $50); tix go on sale on Friday (July 13).

The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock is throwing a party in honor of jazz great Jack DeJohnette, who is celebrating his 70th birthday. The party will take place on Sunday, August 12, starting with a gourmet dinner at 6pm (with music by vocalist Teri Roiger, bassist John Menegon and guitarist Mike DeMicco), followed by a concert by the Terri Lyne Carrington Quartet and a variety of special guests (including Don Byron, Sheila Jordan and Greg Osby) at 7:30pm. Tix for the dinner & concert are $55; concert-only tix are $30.

CANCELLED: The performance by comedian John Carparulo, which was originally slated for The Egg in Albany at 7:30pm on Friday, August 24 has been cancelled and will not be re-scheduled. Refunds are available at the place of purchase.

Another headliner has been announced for the third annual Restoration Festival which is slated for the former St. Joseph’s Church in Albany on September 7-9. In addition to the previously announced Friday night headlining set from the reunited Kamikaze Hearts, the Rest Fest folks have announced that Mount Eerie will be one of the two national headliners on Saturday, September 8. The brainchild of Phil Elverum, the five-piece Mount Eerie will play in support of their recent release, “Clear Moon,” and the upcoming “Ocean Roar,” slated for release on September 4. Tix are now on sale online for the three-day fest: $20 per day for Friday and Sunday; $30 for Saturday-only; $40 for the full three-day weekend pass.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Phil Lesh will be performing as the special guest – along with the Dirt Farmer Band and members of the Levon Helm Band – for the Midnight Ramble at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock later this month. Tix go on sale at 8pm tonight.

Mike Watt – founding member of such seminal indie rockers as the Minutemen and fIREHOSE – leads his current combo the Missingmen into Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany at 8pm on Thursday, October 18. Nippertown faves the Last Conspirators are slated to open. Details TBA.

Wunderkind bluegrass singer-songwriter-mandolinist Sierra Hull and her band Highway 111 will be making a pair of tour stops in Nippertown later this month. They’ll step into the spotlight at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 9pm on Saturday, July 28 ($TBA) before heading up to Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs for a special Monday night show at 7pm on July 30 ($20 in advance; $22 at the door).

OPENERS: In support of her excellent album, “Tramp,” Sharon Van Etten will be the opening act for Connor Oberst at The Egg in Albany at 8pm on Wednesday, July 25. Unfortunately, that concert is SOLD OUT. As previously announced, however, Van Etten will also be playing a headlining show at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Sunday, July 29. Otto Hauser will be opening that show.

Also at Club Helsinki, the Drive-By Truckers’ Patterson Hood rolls into Hudson at 8pm on Thursday, September 20 with his other band the Downtown Rumblers, in support of his upcoming solo album, “Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance.” Tix are $28 in advance; $32 at the door.

The original members of Ben Folds FiveBen Folds, Darren Jessee and Robert Sledge – are reuniting for their first tour since 2000, and one of those concerts will be taking place at Mountain Park in Holyoke on Thursday, September 13. Kate Miller-Heidke is slated to open the show at 7pm. Priced at $30, $45 & $55, tix go on sale on Friday (July 13).

POSTPONED: The concert by Colombian electro-psych band Bomba Estereo, which was original slated for Saturday, July 21 at Club Helsinki in Hudson, has been postponed til 8pm on Tuesday, July 31.

Blues guitarslinger Murali Coryell and his band take over Pauly’s Hotel in Albany at 9pm on Friday, August 3. Tix are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.

Richard Barone – frontman for indie-pop pioneers the Bongos and author of the memoir, “Frontman: Surviving the Rock Star Myth” – hits the stage at the BSP Lounge in Kingston at 8pm on Thursday, July 26, in support of his latest album, “Glow,” and in anticipation of the 25th anniversary five-CD edition of “Cool Blue Halo,” slated for release this fall. Tix are $5.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Fiona Apple will be making a tour stop at the Palace Theatre in Albany in October. Tix will go on sale at 10am on Friday (July 13).

Last week we announced that Bellydance Superstars would be coming to The Egg on Friday, November 16, and this week the folks at The Egg made it official. Advance tix are now available for $32; seniors $27; children $22.
