Things That Make Us Go “Hmmmmm…”

Kind of ironic wasn’t it that “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery was playing last Friday up at SPAC (opening for Brad Paisley) on the same night that “American Idol” judge Steven Tyler was playing with Aerosmith down at the Times Union Center?

Speaking of Steven Tyler, since he was in town on Friday, wouldn’t it have been a stone cold gas if he had slipped up to Saratoga the next night to make an appearance at Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival? After all, the Aerosmith frontman recorded a lush, string-laden version of Charlie Chaplin’s heartbreaking ballad “Smile” on fest headliner Chris Botti’s 2005 album, “To Love Again: The Duets CD.”

Things change. We remember the days when Phish was the opening act for Santana at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Now Phish is making an unprecedented three-night headlining stand at SPAC beginning on Friday (July 6), while Santana returns to SPAC later this month… as the opening act for the Allman Brothers Band.
